FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: How can I register for the Will Rogers Writers' Workshop?

A: Online registration is easy. Just go to the home page of this Web site, scroll down to the last item, click on register now and follow directions.

Q: Is there a special rate for hotel rooms?

A: Yes, the Renaissance Hotel is holding a block of rooms that will be offered to conference Attendees at the special rate of $134 per night. You can reserve a room now. See Travel & Lodging.

Q: What is the cost of the workshop?

A: The fee is $275, which covers a reception and meals for Friday and Saturday, local transportation and workshop materials. We want to make the workshop affordable and to make sure attendees get their money's worth. NSNC is a non-profit organization, so the workshop fee was based on anticipated expenses and funding. It is in line with other programs of this type.

Q: Are there sessions on marketing as well as writing?

A: Very definitely. There will be how-to sessions on selling to a variety of markets, including regional magazines; self-syndicating your work; publishing a book; and other topics. At Dayton, representatives of a greeting card company and a self-publishing company expressed interest in participating in the Oklahoma City workshop.

Q: Is this workshop just for columnists?

A: Absolutely not. The National Society of Newspaper Columnists is dedicated to excellent writing and, along with other members of the National Council of Journalism Organizations, sponsors training programs to achieve that goal. The workshop is for writers of all types: columnists, feature writers, editorialists, humor writers, authors, freelance and self-syndicated, full-time and part-time, on staff or self-employed.

Q: May I bring a guest?

A: Certainly. There is plenty to see and do in Oklahoma City and the hotel is near Bricktown, the city's newest dining, entertainment and shopping district. Only those who are registered may attend the workshop sessions, but a special guest program is planned that will include a city tour and lunch, as well as dinner with the workshop registrants at the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.
